Marine Maintenance
Media blasting is a process of cleaning and preparing surfaces for various refinishing, restoration or coating applications. It involves propelling abrasive materials at high speeds against a surface to remove contaminants such as paint, rust, grease, scale and other accumulated deposits. Media blasting can also be used to shape and texture metal parts in preparation for welding.
The term "sandblasting" was popularized when silica sand was the go-to choice for blast cleaning work. Today, with what we know about silicosis, the surface preparation industry has largely moved away from using silica sand as an abrasive choice.
Media blasting uses different types of media including crushed glass, steel shot, aluminum oxide, walnut shells and coal slag. Different types of materials are better suited for different applications — for instance, soft abrasives like corn cob are great for blasting delicate surfaces, whereas steel shot or steel grit media are better suited for tougher substrates.
Yes! Media blasting can be done inside or outside with our dustless blasting service.
Yes, we come to you! No need to lug around heavy metal parts or transfer large objects - Schroeder's makes it easy!
The cost of media blasting or "sandblasting" depends largely on the substrate being blasted, the total surface area that needs blasting, the quality of said blast, and the expected turnaround time. Depending on the complexity of a job, it may be an hourly rate or a fixed amount per square or linear feet. Contact us today with your project details for a fast quote.
